Through collaboration and funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, the PA Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics has led the way in developing effective child abuse education and prevention programs since 1998. This is an overview of our program.

Child Abuse Education

Our target audience includes medical professionals who are mandated reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect under the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law. The PA Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics currently offers five educational programs designed to help professionals recognize and report suspected abuse and neglect of children. Each of the programs is provided on-site and free of charge, including training materials.

EPIC SCAN: Educating Physicians in their Community on Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect

SCAN Express:  A shortened version of EPIC-SCAN for primary care providers

SCAN SN: Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Education for School Nurses

SCAN HS: Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Education for Hospital Staff

SCAN EMS: Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Education for Emergency Medical Services
