A Child Abuse Preceptorship was established in 2003 to train physicians on the thorough evaluation and diagnosis of physical and sexual abuse. Dr. Cindy W. Christian leads the preceptorship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Dr. Janet Squires leads the preceptorship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Designed for physicians who conduct abuse exams in their community and are interested in improving their skills, the preceptorship covers issues such as the role of the medical provider, evaluation and diagnostic approach of child physical and sexual abuse, documentation and interpretation of findings, testifying as a medical expert, use of technology, networking and team development.

Three participants are selected each year with special consideration given to those in geographic locations that are a significant distance from major medical centers. Funding is available to offset the cost of travel, meals and lodging. To accommodate busy schedules, the 60 hour preceptorship can be completed over several months at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and/or Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh during hours agreed upon with Dr’s Christian and Squires.
schedule   Due to funding constraints, presentations are exclusively for
organizations located in Pennsylvania.
