The Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Education Program for School Nurses (SCAN SN) is designed to address the clinical and legal issues confronted by school nurses in Pennsylvania. Taught by a presentation team of a physician and local Children and Youth worker, the three-hour SCAN-SN features a PowerPoint presentation along with a child abuse education manual and guidebook for each participant. This program is primarily offered as an in-service training through the Intermediate Units and also at regional and state conferences. SCAN-SN is not offered to other school personnel as it focuses only on the role and responsibility of school nurses in dealing with abuse and neglect issues.

Due to funding constraints, presentations are exclusively for

“I’m very pleased that I attended a SCAN  presentation. It provided me with the information  and materials I need to handle child abuse in my schools. With increased clinical knowledge and these resources now at hand, I feel more capable of identifying and reporting child abuse.”
– Holly Renegar, RN, MSN, Penn-Delco School District

The SCAN Program provides excellent presentations and abundant resources. We need to get this clinical program out to all school nurses.” – Barbara Zimmerman, DNSc, RN, Nurse Educator Chair, PASNAP Board of Directors
